IE7: clear my tracks

I think IE7 is the most important part of the new OS. Some say IE is legacy and MS should leave it but it seems like they’re doing a good job with the tabbed browsing, RSS features and so on. There’s also this feature called ‘Delete Browsing History’ that gives users an easy way to […]

New RSS Button.
Well there it is. Get used to it, because it’s the face of RSS feeds to come. Internet Explorer will adopt the Firefox icon as the smartest click in town.
The IE blog tells us that the team building IE7 actually visited Mozilla to get some consensus on the issue. Wow, the new MS […]

Microsoft fixed four IE bugs Tuesday in its regularly-scheduled software update. The patches included one for the heavily-reported flaw that had been used by attackers over the past few weeks to take over the PCs of unsuspecting users. Yahoo News reports:

New security zone controls in IE7

Microsoft engineers Vishu Gupta, Rob Franco and Venkat Kudulur have posted some information on how the company has improved security in Internet Explorer 7.
The basis of this is that the local intranet zone setting is not really relevant for home users. So, IE7 will react when a PC is not on a managed corporate network, […]

Internet Explorer altered to avoid liability

Microsoft is tweaking its Internet Explorer browser to avoid liability during a continuing court case with a new company backed by the University of California. In 2003, a jury awarded more than $500 million in damages to the university and the startup, Eolas, with Microsoft appealing the decision.

Windows Vista font update

Microsoft has corrected the screenshot (published here) of the new Windows Vista font, Segoe UI. It seems that Jensen Harris published the wrong shot on his blog. The one going around is the old Segoe, not the Vista / Office 12 version.
The image above shows Segoe UI as it will be used in Windows […]

Out black spot … er … IE7

Don Park, of whom Dave Winer has said “He knows what he’s talking about”, believes Microsoft should scrap IE7. Reason? It has a long list of legacy problems.
His solution :
1. Let it just rot and, instead, build a new browser that taps .NET 2.0’s full potential.
2. ActiveX? Leave it behind.
3.Netscape Plugins compatibilty? AJAX? Out with […]

Will Windows Vista help prevent eyestrain?

This is a point I’m investigating on my personal blog and naturally, my thoughts turned to Windows Vista.
You may remember a recent post here about the new Vista font, Segoe UI, which is based on ClearType principles (see illustration). There’s no doubt that this font will help computer users prone to eyestrain. You couldn’t […]

Unpatched IE problem worse than it appeared

It seems that the problem in Internet Explorer, highlighted here, is much worse than previously thought. eWeek reports : “… the realization [has been made] by the security community that an Internet Explorer problem first identified six months ago [is] a lot worse than it appeared.”
This has led “Secunia to issue a rare ‘Extremely Critical’ […]

New font for Windows Vista

The new font for Windows Vista
Windows Vista is to have a new font, replacing old standby Tahoma. It’s called Segoe UI and can be inspected in the image above.
