Interview on Why Nick Left Microsoft
Joel Evans of Geek.com has an interview with former Microsoft Nick White about his departure from the software giant:
What is your proudest moment while working at Microsoft and/or at the Vista blog?
I’d have to say that being written up in the Financial Times was one of those moments in which you swallow hard, your breath comes quickly and your head gets light, and your entire career flashes before your eyes. And all this at 7am at home in my pajamas when the morning paper showed up at my door (I’m a subscriber). But, that also cemented for me that the blog eventually was going to fulfill a unique and important role for our customers. I always operated under the presumption that my words could end up on the front page of the paper, but it’s another thing entirely when it actually happens and the publication in question is the world’s leading business newspaper! So that was one of my prouder moments, even if it was extremely sobering at that.
You took a lot of heat every time you posted on the blog, especially about delays or dropped features. Knowing what you know now, what would you have done differently?
