Things you Should Know when Limiting User Access to You Files

by Milo on February 9th, 2008

One of the better security features I like about Windows Vista is being able to limit user access to my computer and files. I have been sloppy securing my files before during my Windows XP days which proved unpleasant when someone quickly used my computer at home.

The things you should bear in mind when limiting user access to computer and files are as follows:

1. Always turn User Account Control all the time as this protects your computer from malware.
2. Create a generic standard account to be used by other people and always use one administrator account only — You.
3. You could also create a standard user account which “You” as the owner use. It would be better if you use administrative account only when needed.
4. Check all users created in Vista and delete unused accounts.
5. Use strong passwords.
6. Be careful in sharing files and avoid them if possible.
