Why Cry for Faster Boot-ups in Windows Vista?

by Milo on November 29th, 2007

I can’t understand why Alexander from Information Week (article here) wanted faster boot-ups in Vista.

I have only shut-down my Vista computer twice or thrice in the last 7 months and it has been a long time since I encountered any problems with it.

Alexander argues: Since Vista doesn’t crash anywhere near as often as earlier Windows incarnations, you may be wondering why I don’t just boot up on New Year’s Day and leave my PC on. Mostly, it’s about the heat and fan noise (and secondarily about electricity costs). Plus, I like to pretend that I have some time at home where I’m not thinking about or using my computer. So, when there’s just one last thing I absolutely have to check after I’ve logged off for the fifth time for the night, I’d love to be able to boot up in 30 seconds. That’s not asking for too much, is it?

You don’t include sleep mode in Vista and people complain. You give them sleep mode and they don’t use it and look for other problems related to Vista.

It is as simple as that it goes with the human tendency which they have devloped in the due course and that is leg pulling each time and make a noice for what they dont have rather than utilising what they have..

And undoutedly this negative approach is what has made the generation to grow and enhance them for what they.

Only thing I can figure is that laptop users still prefer to shut down the machine, rather than put it to sleep or hibernate mode. I’ve seen many people do this…. even my own mom doesn’t understand then when she opens the lid the laptop is on, it just needs to wake up. She inadvertently hits the power button to turn it on, but ends up signaling it to turn off.

You sure do spend a lot of time trying to defend Vista’s shortcomings. I suppose it’s great job security, but don’t you feel the least bit guilty about trying to dupe people in to using an inferior OS?

I’d like faster boot up. I’ve got a laptop so it gets turned on and off frequently. Anything to speed up the process would be great.
