AveNoBreadCrumb to Disable Your Breadcrumb

by Milo on August 24th, 2007

At first I didn’t like the Windows Vista breadcrumb but as I used it more it became a must in my user experience. Nonetheless, some people might want it disabled.

Andreas Verhoeven has created a hack to disable the breadcrumb. You can download the zip file here. Extract the file AveNoBreadCrumb.exe and your next Windows Vista explorer should have no breadcrumbs in it anymore.

You can create a shortcut for it and save it in your startup folder to fire up automatically.

Doesn’t work - don’t know why but simply doesn’t work for me, fresh install of Ultimate.

    Works great!

Thanks so much for this nice little hack as this stupid Vista “feature” was driving me INSANE.

Yeah it disables the “bread crumb” address bar in Vista Explorer and replaces it with the normal address bar.

But it also cleared out all my right click menus and the flyout menus in the start menu. Couldn’t even see the shutdown, logoff, and restart buttons. I uninstalled it. Got the “bread crumb” address bar back, but the right click menus and the start menu flyouts were still gone. Did a registry clean, no luck.

I restored my image backup and in about 20 minutes, I was back to normal. If I didn’t have an image backup, I would have been screwed. Would have probably had to reformat and reinstall the OS.

Can someone please lead me to a free download file manager for Vista?
