Extending the Life of Windows XP

by Milo on July 18th, 2007

My friend once told me back in the days of Windows 95 that he had no need of upgrading his hardware for the time being since he wasn’t upgrading his operating system and applications.

Right on target, if you don’t have the budget for a new box then stick with what you have as long as it still meets your minimum productivity requirements. That doesn’t sound very positive, nonetheless, it is a fact that not all people have deep resources.

Computerworld has a good article (found here) on how you can extend Windows XP by installing software to improve the security of Windows XP and get some visual semblance of Windows Vista.

I started with W95 too, for my first PC back in 1996. Then heard about the troubles with W98. I learned to wait for the next NEXT OS to come out before getting the last one. I’ve held onto W98SE from then until just last year, and jumped straight to WXP w/ SP2. W98SE was great, except for the yearly reload; I used W2000 at the office and love it, but XP is great too!

I have an idea for a small (but expandable) series of advertisements for Microsoft’s Vista operating system. Looking for an ad agency (preferrably having previous experience with Microsoft) interested in this idea. See my YouTube video of my idea here:
