Google on Microsoft Again?
It looks Google already won against Microsoft in their Anti-trust complain which says Microsoft Windows Vista makes it difficult to select another search engine.
Microsoft responded by making the following revisions:
1. Microsoft will make it simple for users to select whichever desktop search engine they want to use, just as is currently possible for browsers and media players in Vista.
2. Microsoft will enable the chosen desktop search tool to be launched “whenever Windows launches a new top-level window to provide search results.”
3. Microsoft will add links on the Start Menu and on Windows Explorer windows to the user’s chosen desktop search tool.
4. Microsoft will provide desktop search competitors with technical information needed to optimize the performance of their products running on Vista.
Guess what? Google came back again saying it wasn’t enough and they wanted more. David Drummond, senior Vice President chief legal officer of Google says:
The remedies won by the Department of Justice and state attorneys general from Microsoft are a positive step, but consumers will likely need further measures to ensure meaningful choice. Ultimately, these issues raise the need for continued judicial oversight of Microsoft’s practices, to ensure that consumers’ interests are best served.
Microsoft has already done it’s share and the government were already satisfied with Microsoft’s changes; what’s your problem Google?

I cannot fathom why I would want to use anything other than Microsoft as a desktop search tool. I certainly do not want a web search program accessing my hard drive.
I expect to have the right to refuse installation of third party search tools on my computer.

Same here. Windows Search does its job to meet consumer’s requirements.
