Optimistic Goals of Ben Fathi doesn’t Sell

PCWorld reports that former head of Microsoft’s security group Ben Fathi, now chief of development in Windows core operating system, says that the number of vulnerabilities in Windows Vista would be half of Windows XP.

Even though Microsoft boasts a lot about the security technology of Windows Vista, the complexity of the operating system would still contain a lot of vulnerabilities.

A lot of security experts did not agree about cutting the vulnerabilities to half and believe Windows Vista would still have 80 percent of the number of Windows XP.

Graham Cluley says (in an excerpt):

“I have to say that I admire Microsoft’s optimism.

“I would perhaps be more cautious than Fathi because in the last five years, the number of hackers and researchers who are examining Microsoft’s code for vulnerabilities with ever greater intensity has increased. Furthermore, we have seen a number of legitimate security companies (including some who may have a vested interest in debunking Microsoft’s status as a security player) put efforts into finding flaws in Microsoft’s code.

“What isn’t in doubt is that there will continue to be flaws found in Microsoft Vista.
