I Don’t Care About Windows Vista’s Superb Gameplay Power

by Milo on January 9th, 2007

The new gameplay power of Windows Vista is spectacular; but it is something that me and my friends don’t really care about. I seriously doubt it would make us switch from our Frozen Throne Addiction playing Dota (Defense of the Ancient). It is an epidemic that spreads all over the place. No gameplay is going to beat our Dota Party where tons of us play the game from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. (following day) in the evening of Fridays and Saturdays. It is a brotherhood of gamers.

So much for my Dota addiction. Seriously, Windows Vista is now the ultimate gaming platform as demonstrated on Consumer Electronic Show (CES) where games from both Windows Vista and Xbox 360™ can communicate and connect between each which allows gamers to play against each other. UNO and Shadowrun for example are capable of cross-platform gameplay and are optimized for Windows Vista.

Among the other Games for Windows portfolio are the following (List from Tomraider community):
• “Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures” (Eidos Interactive/Funcom)
• “Age of Empires® III: The Warchiefs” (Microsoft Game Studios/Ensemble Studios)
• “Alan Wake” (Microsoft Game Studios/Remedy)
• “Bioshock” (2K Games/Irrational Games)
• “Company of Heroes” (THQ Inc./Relic Entertainment)
• “Crysis” (EA Partners/Crytek)
• “Enemy Territory: Quake Wars” (Activision/Splash Damage)
• “Flight Simulator X” (Microsoft Game Studios/ACES Studio)
• “Frontlines: Fuels of War” (THQ/Kaos Studios™)
• “Halo 2” (Microsoft Game Studios/Bungie Studios)
• “Hellgate: London” (EA Partners/NAMCO BANDAI Games/Flagship Studios)
• “LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy” (LucasArts/TT Games)
• “Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar” (Midway/Turbine Inc.)
• “Marvel Universe Online” (Microsoft Game Studios/Cryptic Studios)
• “Rail Simulator” (EA Partners/Kuju Entertainment)
• “Shadowrun” (Microsoft Game Studios/FASA Studio)
• “Supreme Commander” (THQ/Gas Powered Games)
• “Tabula Rasa” (NCSoft Corp./ Destination Games)
• “World in Conflict” (Sierra Entertainment/Massive Entertainment)
• “Zoo Tycoon® 2: Extinct Animals” (Microsoft Game Studios/Blue Fang Games)
• “Zoo Tycoon 2: Marine Mania” (Microsoft Game Studios/Blue Fang Games)
• “Zoo Tycoon 2: Zookeeper Collection” (Microsoft Game Studios/Blue Fang Games)

Windows Vista as a gaming powerhouse is strengthened by having powerhouse allies from the gaming industry — NCSoft, Midway, Turbine Inc., Eidos, 2K Games, Atari and LucasArts join THQ, Vivendi Universal.

The power of Windows Vista for gameplay is revolutionary and I would be surprised if they start dominating living rooms in the coming years. However, I am disappointed they haven’t made friends with Blizzard the makers of Warcraft Frozen Throne.
