Microsoft Take Rough Stance against Pirated Vista
Microsoft announced they have included features in Windows Vista that will validate pirated copies of the software that would eventually shut out all features, only leaving internet browsing. If users using pirated copies are policed, then they get what they deserve; but if Microsoft’s validation process fails again, then users are left with an expensive high-powered machine dedicated for internet browsing.
It doesn’t look like Microsoft is using Six Sigma in their organization and any margin of error in their validation process equate to large number of paying customers which is bad for their company image.
Microsoft promised they are rolling out procedures for large enterprises with volume licenses. This is a common form of piracy where companies do not have processes in place to make sure employees especially from the IT department do not bring home installation materials of these softwares. I seriously doubt Microsoft could police these large enterprises and I would expect them handing out guidelines and contracts which is not enough to stop piracy.
