Vista successor is called Fiji

Fiji Islands? Fiji Water? It’s all good, because Microsoft has a new codename for the next version of Windows and that name is Fiji (via gizmodo.com).

[…] Am I the only one that finds it comical that Microsoft is worrying about code-naming the next two versions of Windows, when Windows Vista has not even hit store shelves yet, and at this time is considered to be extremely late? Apparently the good folks at the Window’s Vista Weblog are not too concerned, because they are all excited the next, next version of Windows, the one coming after Vista which will have the code-name of Fiji. I hate to say it but I don’t think anybody at Microsoft is going to be making it to Fiji any time soon. Then again as far was we know the whole corporation may already be there, that would explain why Windows Vista is taking so long. […]

I know this goes without saying but shouldnt they be more worried about getting their OS X copy of Vista out first before making code names for vaporware?

It is quite annoying to hear about the next Windows Vista, when Vista is not even out yet. Please give us Vista, Now.

Windows codenames are plentiful and constantly changing. Vista was previously called Longhorn. Does anyone know how the naming process actually works? Is there a think-tank whose job is to come up with ridiculous names? Is there a voting process? Does Mr. Gates get a veto vote?

i dont know how microsoft found the name vista but longhorn was a saloon where the “designers” went for drinks. :D
