When the new OS is released to customers the firewall in Windows Vista will, by default, only block incoming traffic. Offcourse it will also be capable of blocking outgoing traffic but users will have to do that themselves (it’s not that hard). Because the nature of an outbound firewall is to restrict the traffic sent […]

It looks like Microsoft could have found a way to react on the critical review that Paul Thurrott wrote a few days ago. The company is promoting the new OS at the National Association of Broadcasters convention being held this week in Las Vegas. MS needs to keep customers wanting Vista for at least ten […]

Paul Thurrott from winsupersite.com has a very good (and critical) article on Vista. In his fifth CTP review he mainly writes about how disappointed he is in the upcoming Windows Vista release. He rambles about everything that is wrong with Vista and the company that’s releasing it. Vista seems to be just an upgraded version […]

A European agency has thrown out Microsoft’s registration of the new Segoe font that will be used in Vista. But is this new font legal or just a copy??? Segoe was an original design developed by Agfa Monotype in 2000. MS acquired the original Segoe fonts in 2003 and used them “to develop an extended […]

Oops, we shoud call it “Defender” and not Anti-Spyware, so it seems;) The Defender software got a minor update with improvements to the user interface and signature updating. As you may know the Defender will be integrated into Windows Vista, so at this time it’s only available as an add-on to WinXp.
“With these upcoming […]

Fiji Islands? Fiji Water? It’s all good, because Microsoft has a new codename for the next version of Windows and that name is Fiji (via gizmodo.com).

It seems that a couple of links have been leaked, so anyone can now download the 5308 build of MS Vista. The file is 2.71GB, and is named FebCTP_5308_32bit_Main_Staged_DVD.iso. Too bad for the freeloaders that the build can only be installed by those with a valid Windows Vista Product key, which are issued only to […]

Redmondmag.com has an article about testing Windows Vista and the way Microsoft could be doing more to improve it.
Some time this month, if Microsoft sticks to schedule, the company will deliver its latest test build of Windows Vista to hundreds of thousands of testers. Seems like a perfect time to contemplate how well Microsoft’s Vista […]

A very neat feature of Windows Vista is SuperFetch… this service learns which applications you use most and preloads them into memory! And, as you might know, this way you can reduce paging and loading times. Thelazyadmin writes that this is similar to the prefetch used in XP however, Microsoft has come up with a […]

As we all know it could take another year before we can see Vista hitting the shops. With all that delaying some MS-marketing buff has gotten the idea to launch stickers for PC’s saying “Windows Vista Capable”. The PC’s can be found in stores, letting customers know what hardware […]
