Has Windows Vista Beta 2 been scrapped?
According to Paul Thurrott, Microsoft “feels it can get the feedback it needs with CTP [Community Technical Preview] builds, which are released in a more timely nature than major beta builds.” As a result, speculation has started that Windows Vista Beta 2 may be scrapped.
The company is visibly anxious to avoid any more delays to its biggest release for a decade, and is apparently prepared to do violence to its schedule to carry it through. Thurrott comments : “Release Candidate 0 (RC0) is [targeted for] March or April 2006. According to my sources, this plan would allow the company to continue plotting the final release of Windows Vista for the third quarter of 2006.”
Although Microsoft denies scrapping Beta 2, Amitabh Srivastava, the corporate vice president of Windows Core Operating System Development said that it was “less urgent” because of the company’s new engineering process and early CTP feedback.
Something is clearly afoot.

Got to say I’ve always found the beta-RC thing a bit bizarre.

They seem to make it hard for themselves, don’t they?
