“Self-healing” planned for Windows Vista
Ideas are being tossed around the Vista team for “self-healing” software which will check crucial files and reinstall them if necessary every time Windows loads.
A ZDNet review reports : “The applications and the OS will contain a list of key hash files; if any of the files have changed over time or are missing, the software will automatically reinstall the file upon loading.”
In addition, Windows update will check for malware during updates of the system and remove any found.
It’s not clear whether these ideas will be implemented. The history of Vista so far suggests caution and a strong move towards greater compactness.
