External memory will boost Windows Vista

Getting some attention at the PDC is a Windows Vista facility called Superfetch, which monitors both the data and applications accessed over time and preloads them into memory. This contributes to faster access all round.

Windows Vista screenshot: Vista stack view

Another Windows Vista screenshot, this time of stacked thumbnails at a slight angle, with the now familiar grass theme in the background. The Aero Glass feature is also clearly visible. To me this is a confused and untidy presentation which I’m sure Microsoft will remedy before final release.

Microsoft Office 12 screenshots

More revelations from the PDC (Professional Developers Conference) which opened today in Los Angeles. Slashdot points us to a page of screenshots from the upcoming Office 12 suite of applications.
Look for the metallic grey design, reminiscent of the Aqua style of the Mac operating system, but impressive nonetheless.
