Basic versions of Windows Vista will lack many features
Microsoft is getting round the massive hardware resources needed to fully implement the Windows Vista vision by reducing the features in the more basic of its seven projected “editions”.
According to Softpedia, the Starter and Home Basic editions won’t have the much-lauded Aero Glass graphics feature. They will present a “Classic” GUI similar to XP. “Other graphics features, such as tab previews or taskbar preview, will be excluded as well, because they would require too many resources.”
Moreover : “The new version of Microsoft Windows Web Server will only be included in the business type versions, which will also include unique features, such as Windows Fax.”
While all editions will contain the new version of Windows Media Player, only the Home Premium and Business editions will include DVD authoring, Movie Maker HD with an image editor. Games requiring all the graphical capabilities, like 3D Chess and Shanghai Solitaire, will only come with the high-end versions.
With so many features missing from the basic implementations, what we wonder will be the incentive to upgrade from XP for many home users?
