New Patching tool for Vista is “Holy Grail”
The newly-named Freeze Dry facility in Windows Vista is the Holy Grail of patching technology, claims industry insiders. It will be especially useful in corporate environments where patches are automatically installed during quiet times and overnight. Staff who leave documents open and unsaved on their computers often lose data if their system is automatically updated.
According to John Pescatore, a Vice President of Gartner, “These things have been talked about for a long time. Every release of Windows is always making boot-up times shorter and patching easier, but Microsoft has not been able to deliver all of the time.”
The company is coming close to reaching patching Utopia, claims Pescatore. “The Holy Grail is total hands-off patching. This ability to patch without requiring a reboot is enormous,” he added. “This has been a feature users have been clamouring for.” [Via ZDNet]
