Comparison of the Windows Vista look with Mac Tiger OS

by John on August 31st, 2005

Paul Thurrott has been comparing the vanities of Vista and Tiger over at WinSupersite. Both these ladies win some approval, but with many qualifications. Vista is behind, but catching up on the four-year lead of the Mac OS. “Windows Vista Beta 1 closes the gap, though I don’t think the beta Aero UI we’re seeing now is quite as nice looking as Tiger’s Aqua. In Vista Beta 1, Microsoft has added a number of visual effects that Mac users have enjoyed for four years, including translucencies, high-resolution icons, and animation effects that are both attractive and functional.”

In the end it’s like comparing apples and oranges, one in full ripeness, the other as yet green and undeveloped. “In short, though there are some bizarre inconsistencies in the Tiger UI, it is far more elegant looking than Aero in Windows Vista Beta 1. That makes sense, as Vista is still in a very early beta version and will likely be improved dramatically in future releases.”

[…] A few months back we had a comparison of Windows Vista with Mac Tiger OS but Vista was still in a very early beta version. Microsoft has promised the “largest upgrade since Windows 95” in Windows Vista. Bentuser.com takes a look at build 5270, which will probably be one of the last intermediate releases before the “feature complete” Beta 2 release. In the article he looks at what this upgrade means in real terms by comparing it with the venerable Windows XP. The article covers the Start Menu, Window Switcher and other Window Management Features, Search, Windows Media Player 11, IE7, Media Center 2, Control Panel and some other features. Conclusion is that there is no doubt that Windows Vista is a major upgrade, well I’ve could tell you that;) This entry was posted on Thursday, January 12th, 2006 and is filed under Windows Vista.
