Deployment Tools in Windows Vista

by John on August 22nd, 2005

Another reason Windows Vista will be cheaper and easier to deploy, says Microsoft, is that deployment tools are included with the operating system. They have been specially designed to be easy to use, with minimal training. The tools include :

• Application Compatibility Toolkit. Inventory and analyze your organization’s applications to ensure they work with Windows Vista.

• Microsoft Windows User State Migration Tool (USMT). Automatically migrate the files and settings you specify from Microsoft Windows 2000, and Windows XP to Windows Vista, whether performing an in-place upgrade or migrating to a new computer.

• XImage. Capture and edit WIM images

• Windows Setup Manager. Configure Windows Vista images by using a wizard-based tool to add modules such as languages.

• Windows Preinstallation Environment (PE). Capture images and edit system configuration without starting the primary operating system.
